James E. "Johnny" Norris, 79, of Lapel, passed away on Thursday, June 13, 2024, at his home in Lapel.
He was born on June 20, 1944 in Burkesville, Kentucky to Willie Bradley and Nina Pearl (McIntyre) Norris. Johnny graduated from Lapel High School.
Johnny retired from General Motors. He loved anything to do with cars; collecting, tinkering and teaching people about cars. Johnny taught so many young men and inspired them about older antique and any type of cars. Many graduated from the "Johnny Norris School of Chevy Technology." He also enjoyed traveling. Johnny would travel the longest way possible and always take the country roads. He would never travel two ways the same. He was a longtime member of the Lapel Eagles and a member of the Amvets. Most importantly, Johnny was a family man, he never met a stranger and loved his daughter, granddaughter, and great-grandchildren endlessly.
He is survived by his daughter, Kimberly (Jeff) Mackey, grandaughter, Whitney Munden, three great-grandchildren, Bristol, Gentry, and Hudson Munden; Aunts, Ruby Crosby, Mary Simmons, and Blondie Johnson; he is also survived by many cousins and his life-long special friend, Lynn Carpenter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife of 49 years, Cheryl Sue Norris, and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
A celebration of life gathering will take place from 4:00pm - 6:00pm on Wednesday, June 19, 2024 at the Lapel Eagles, 110 East 9th Street, Lapel, Indiana 46051.
Following the gathering at 6:00pm there will be a "cruise the loop" of the Town of Lapel to celebrate Lapel's oldest teenager. Johnny's family requests for you to bring your old antique cars, and/or motorcycles. The cruise will end at the Lapel Eagles where then food, drinks, and sharing of memories will take place.
Memorial contributions may be made to The Lapel Eagles, Lapel American Legion, and/or the Grateful Rescue in Muncie.
