James G. Johnson, 81, Mooresville, devoted husband of Susan (McKillip) Johnson, passed away unexpectedly November 9, 2023, while working on his farm. Jim was born February 23, 1942, in Indianapolis, to the late Gordon and Helen (Snyder) Johnson.
Jim graduated from Shortridge High School and earned a degree in Agriculture from Purdue University. He was an avid Boilermaker fan; his mother having founded the university’s school of nursing. In addition to being a lifelong farmer, Jim worked as an auditor for the USDA for 30 years, retiring in 2013. He was a faithful parishioner of St. Thomas More Catholic Church, member of the Knights of Columbus Council 7431 and the 4th Degree Bishop Chatard Assembly. Jim loved the outdoors – especially caring for his beloved farm where he raised cattle and baled hay. Jim served his community as a precinct committeeman for many years and was on the Madison Township Board. Jim will be fondly remembered for his hard work ethic, his willingness to always lend a helping hand and for his gifts as a wonderful husband, father and grandfather.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Earl Johnson.
Jim is survived by his wife of 45 years, Susan; children, Kristine Anne Britt, Eric (Patricia) Johnson, Andres (Ryan) Bell, Adam Johnson, and Kengo (Makiko) Miura and his grandchildren, Roth, Zoe, Madalene, Clarissa, Nathaniel, Josephine, Emma, Elise, Lori, and Joe. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Susan Johnson; niece, Kim (Rick) Recker; and many other special family members, friends, and neighbors.
Friends and family will gather to honor and remember Jim’s life on Tuesday, November 14, 2023, 4 to 7 p.m., with a rosary beginning at 6:30 p.m. at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 1200 N. Indiana Street, Mooresville. The Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, November 15, 2023, in the church. Burial will follow in Crown Hill Cemetery, Indianapolis.
