James William Jonen
1935 – 2025
James William Jonen, 89, of Hoffman Estates, Illinois, passed away peacefully on November 13, 2025. Born December 17, 1935 in Antigo, Wisconsin, to William and Martelle Jonen, Jim lived a life defined by service, faith, and family.
Much of his early career was spent as a professional with the Boy Scouts of America, where he dedicated himself to nurturing leadership and character in young people. Later, he built a successful career as an independent financial and tax advisor, guiding many clients with honesty and care.
Jim's lifelong passion for Scouting continued through his family. He took great joy in encouraging his sons and grandchildren on their own Scouting journeys, resulting in Eagle Scout honors for son Mike and grandchildren Ben, Sam, and Theo. His commitment to service and mentorship was a legacy that will live on for generations.
A devoted member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Jim instilled in his family the values of gratitude, faith, and helping those in need. His love for friends and family was unwavering - matched only, perhaps, by his lifelong devotion to the Green Bay Packers. (Go Pack!)
Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Ruth (Steensland); sons Michael, John, and David; daughters-in-law Alisa and Dawn; and grandchildren Emma (Marcus), Parrish, Thomas, William, Benjamin, Samson, and Theodore. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Martelle, sister Beverly (Myrick), and sweet, sweet granddaughter Andrea.
A memorial service will be held at Prince of Peace Luther Church on December 5th. In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations in his memory to a favorite charity, the Boy Scouts of America, or Prince of Peace Lutheran Church.
