Virginia U. Wightman, 86, of Streamwood, IL
August 16, 1939 – November 8, 2025
Virginia Uhlhorn Wightman, beloved mother, grandmother, and devoted servant of Christ, passed peacefully into the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on November 8, 2025, after a courageous battle with colon cancer.
Born in London, Kentucky, on August 16, 1939, to Arthur and Virginia Uhlhorn, Virginia grew up with a love for learning and a heart for service. She earned her degree in education from Northern Illinois University and dedicated much of her life to teaching, shaping young minds with patience and grace.
In 1964, Virginia met the love of her life, Howard Wightman, in Des Plaines, IL. Together, they built a beautiful family, beginning with the adoption of Howard's three sons and later welcoming a child of their own. Virginia found delight in puzzles, reading, music, and teaching piano-hobbies that reflected her thoughtful and creative nature. She joyfully served in her church's choir and puppet ministry.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Wightman, and her son, David Wightman. Virginia is survived by her children and their families:
• Roger Wightman, son and his wife, Gale; and children:
o Sean (Alice) Wightman and children Olivia, Lucy, Eliot
o Tyler (Lyn) Wightman and children Kaylee, Lincoln, Juliet, Charlotte
o Ellen (Dean) Peterson and sons Crew, Lando
o Khalia (Luke) Wachlin and daughter Amaris
• Larry Wightman, son and his former wife, Janice; and children:
o Rachel Wightman (Brian Conn) and son James
o Jessica Wightman (Randy Direen) and children Maxwell, Elliot
o Emily (Bob) Wilkinson and children Everleigh, Levi
o Adam (Tara) Wightman
o Anna (Aaron) Foster
• Debra Wightman, daughter-in-law; and children:
o Ashley (David) Alford and children Mason, Walker, Laurelin
o Austin Wightman
o Jonas Wightman
o Michaela Wightman
• Peter Wightman, son
A Celebration of Life service will be held on November 14, 2025, at Bethel Baptist Church, 200 North Roselle Road, Schaumburg, IL 60194. Visitation will begin at 6:30 PM, followed by the service at 7:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Schaumburg Christian School, honoring Virginia's lifelong commitment to education and faith.
