James Kelley Obituary

James E. Kelley
We are deeply saddened to announce the unexpected passing of James E. Kelley, 60, of Woodstock, CT, formerly of New Canaan, on September 7, 2024. Jimmy was born April 6, 1964 to the late William L. Kelley and Claudette (Muraro) Kelley, also formerly of New Canaan. Growing up on Crystal Street, the youngest of four and surrounded by a large extended family, he attended South School, Saxe Middle School, and graduated from New Canaan High in 1982, where he played baseball and football and brought happiness to so many with his smile, kindness, compassion, and love of life. He received a bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Eastern Connecticut State College. But the corporate world was not for him. His love of nature and the outdoors led him to a lifetime career in landscaping where he owned LJ Landscape Design in Woodstock.
Jim leaves behind his loving wife Lisa of 34 years and their children Lauren Milliard (Ben) of Leicester, MA and Jack Kelley of Andover, MA, his mother Claudette, sisters Claudia Meade and Toni Costa and brother William Kelley, as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and clients who simply adored him.
To say that Jimmy was a bright light in our lives is an understatement. His unbounded energy and zest for life and love of family and animals goes beyond words. It wouldn't be out of the norm to find him anonymously bringing food or clothing to a family in need or adopting yet another precious dog or cat that he devoted his life to. His heart knew no boundaries and his ability to lend a helping hand, without a second thought, was remarkable and a privilege to witness. He will also be remembered by countless people whose gardens have been transformed into magical places by his artistry and gentle hands. Many of his clients considered him part of their family. Jimmy will be forever missed and in our hearts. But we are left with honor and immense gratitude for loving and being loved by him.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Jim's memory to Sean Patrick's Plants, 34 E Howey Road, Ashford, CT 06278; Andover Landscaping LLC, 5 Hendee Road, Andover, CT 06238 or NECCOG Animal Services, PO Box 759, Dayville, CT 06241.

I grew up just blocks from Jim on Crystal st. near South School. While I was never a popular kid in school, Jim always treated me with kindness. I remember him well and his brother Ed. They always included me and made me feel special. May God bless you, your family, your legacy and your memory.

Saddened to hear of James passing. Friends in school, but more than that. James set an example athletically that peers would strive to match. Proud to be able to call him a friend. Shared many firsts together. My heart felt condolences to the Kelley Family.

I am so sorry to hear of Jim´s death. He has helped me out a few times with trimming and advice. I took pictures of his work but still preferred he do it. I am glad I got to meet him and learn from him. I am so sorry for your loss.

Lisa, Loren, & Jack. I am so sorry for your loss. Jim was all that (his obituary) and more. I know my brief message cannot sum up a lifetime I´ve known Jim. He really was a great friend who was always there for anyone in need. I miss him dearly and I wish you peace.

While not having seen Jim since high school, I remember him as being a really great guy who was always very nice to everyone. RIP, Jim, and condolences to your family.
