James "Otis" Kelly was born on January 26, 1946, in Marlow, Oklahoma to James "Pete" and Ethel (Hardin) Kelly Burton. He passed away at his home in Marlow surrounded by his family on Thursday, February 29, 2024, at the age of 78.
A memorial service is planned for 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, March 13, at the REC Multi Purpose Center, 808 REC Blvd, in Lindsay, Oklahoma with Charles Bagley officiating. Arrangements have been entrusted to Whitt Funeral Home/Oakcrest Cremation Center.
Otis grew up around Fuqua Lake and attended Doyle High School. He married Helen Bagley on June 12, 1964, and had 3 children: Loura, James and Helen Marie. Otis worked as a heavy equipment operator for Rinehart Company in Lindsay for 27 years. He was a hard worker and made sure to provide for his family. In his free time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and being outdoors. Over his lifetime, he learned many skills from being a mechanic and building motors, to fabrication when building horse trailers, along with all types of construction. When Otis was younger, you could find him at the drag strip running one of his hot rods. He took pride in watching his kids and grandkids run mud trucks that he had helped build. Otis never missed an opportunity to be with family. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
Otis is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Jimmy Don Kelly.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Helen; children: Helen Gill and husband John of Marlow, Loura Kelly of Marlow, and James Kelly and wife Kristin of Foster, OK; grandsons: Caleb Kelly, Jacob Kelly, Jarrod Kelly, Keeton Kelly, and Harley Beam; great-grandchildren: Rylinn Kelly and Landyn Kelly; brothers: Frank Kelly and Rick Kelly; and sister, Carolyn Jaggers.
