James C. Klosterman

James C. "Jim" Klosterman, 79, of Brookings, passed away Friday, June 16, 2023, at United Living Community in Brookings. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am Friday, June 23, 2023, at St. Thomas More Catholic Church. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church, beginning at 9:30 am. Rude's Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
James Charles 'Jim' Klosterman was born in Hendricks, MN to Myles and Frances (Welsh) Klosterman June 17, 1943. He was a member of the Catholic Church and served as altar boy growing up in Elkton. (He lived a crossed the corner from church.) He received a B.S. degree from SDSU in science and math education and Master's Degree in Natural Science from USD. Jim taught in Wilmot, SD, White Lake, SD, Worthington, MN, Castlewood, SD, and Watertown, SD. After 18 years teaching, he serviced microscopes in 5 state areas, in schools and vet clinics.
Jim was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church, wherever he lived and also served as lector for many years in Worthington and Kranzburg churches. He enjoyed playing cards. He had a love for baseball, playing for many years and as well as always watching games; and liked listening to big band music.
Survived by his wife Sharon; daughter, Jo Ellen; grandsons, Nick and Gavin; granddaughter, Kylie; great granddaughters, Maci, Cambrie, Aurora, Leighton and one on the way; two brothers, Tom Klosterman, of Brookings, SD and Don (Veralyn) Klosterman of Wilsonville, OR; two sisters, Kay (Don) Simon of Hayfield, MN and Candi Rochel (Bob) of Elkton, SD, along with his nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by parents and nephew Jeff Anderson.
