James R. Kuhl, known affectionately as Jim by his family and friends, passed away peacefully on July 25, 2025, in Mishawaka, IN, at the age of 88. Born on November 2, 1936, in Niles, MI, he was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother, whose legacy is cherished by his family and friends.
Jim is survived by the love of his life, Jerry Hemphill, whom he married on May 18, 1957, in Galien, MI, making memories to last a lifetime over a beautiful union of 68 years. His devotion to his family was the cornerstone of his life. Together, they raised two sons, Dennis Kuhl and Steven (Beth) Kuhl, who went on to provide him with a lineage of pride: grandsons Garrison (Madylyn), Evan (Alexis), Jamie, and Tyler; as well as a cherished great-grandchildren Natalie, Talia, and Calista. Though they grieve his absence, they celebrate the full life Jim led and the countless ways in which he enriched their lives.
Jim was preceded in death by his loving parents, Arthur and Evelyn (Eppich) Kuhl, siblings Jan Kuhl and Robert Kuhl, brother-in-law Lamonte Hemphill, and his adored grandson Brooks. He is survived by his sister Jean (Rex) Rose, and sister in laws Pat Kanous, Nancy Hampton, Nadine (Howard) Roth, Donna (Bill) Smith, and Patty Hemphill, who together with the family, reminisce in the many happy memories of Jim's generous spirit.
A proud graduate of Galien High School's class of 1955, Jim dedicated nine years of service to the Navy Reserves, imbuing him with a profound sense of duty and patriotism. His working career was highlighted by 21 years as an esteemed engineer at Starcraft RV Industries in Topeka, IN, followed by five rewarding years driving truck for Jayco. Jim's professional life was marked not only by his skilled contributions but also by the lasting friendships he made along the way.

A graveside service will take place on Monday, August 4th, 2025 at 10 am, at Galien Township Cemetery.

Memorial contribution may be made in Jim's name online to Tunnel to Towers www.t2t.org.
