Holland Funeral Service & Crematory - MonroeJames Reeves Leopard, 91, went to his Heavenly home on January 30, 2026, at his home in Waxhaw, NC. James was born in High Shoals, NC on May 7, 1934, to Paul King and Lillie Mae Leopard, the middle child of seven siblings.
When Lillie Mae went into labor with James but was too far from the hospital to get there in time, Dr. Reeves—a nearby veterinarian—stepped in, delivered the newborn, and became the source of his namesake.
James met who he believed to be the prettiest girl in Charlotte at the Carolina Theatre, and the two quickly began dating. They married on October 12, 1952, when they were just 16 and 18 years old, clearly destined to be soul mates. Their love endured for more than 73 years until James’ passing.
James began his working career in the mills, helping to support his mother and family. He later spent several years as a woodworker with Display Fixtures before joining A.G. Boone as a truck driver—a position he proudly held for more than 30 years. During his tenure, he earned membership in the Million Miles Club, an honor given to drivers who have logged over one million accident free miles. Outside of work, he was an avid bowler, winning multiple tournaments and even achieving a perfect score.
James, along with Faye, were very active members of the First Pentecostal Holiness Church in Charlotte, singing in the choir, serving as Deacon, Secretary/Treasurer, and Youth Leaders.
As deeply as James adored his beautiful bride, he also cherished his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents and all his siblings. James is survived by the love of his life Faye; his children Paul Reeves Leopard (Darin) and Beverly Gail Leopard Smothers (Brian) of Charlotte, 7 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Holland Funeral Home, 806 Circle Drive, Monroe, NC 28112 on 02/21/2026 at 11am. Visitation with the family will be after the service.
