James Devon Lester, age 90, of Mackville, Kentucky passed away at 4:15 a.m., Tuesday, September 30, 2025 at the Village of Lebanon Nursing Home.

A native of Mercer County, he was born on February 22, 1935 to the late Thomas H. and Sara Russell Lester.

He was a member of the Bruners Chapel Baptist Church, a 1955 graduate of Rose Hill High School, he honorably served his country in the United States Army, he was a farmer and a retired employee of the Mercer County Public School System where he worked for 34 years.

On August 9, 1975 he was united in marriage to, Patsy Russell, she preceded him in death on June 7, 2022. Also preceding him in death was a sister, Wilma Hazel Lester Gaddie on February 13, 2025 and a brother, Wallace H. Lester on July 5, 2010.

He is survived by three nieces, Janie Wheatley of Campbellsville, Carol Ann Hadley of Louisville and Rebecca Ford of Fort Myers, Florida and a nephew, Ray Gaddie of Punta Gorda, Florida. Also surviving is a very special great niece, Jaclyn Dabney of Mannsville, KY and special friends Justin and Brittany Hatchett and Marty and Jeannie Hatchett of Mackville and a host of other friends and relatives including his best friend, his faithful Beagle, Fred.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 3rd at the Carey & Son Funeral Home with Bro. John Herndon, minister of the Mackville Christian Church, officiating.

Burial will be in the Peter Cemetery at Mackville where military rites will be conducted by the Marion County Veterans Honor Guard.

Serving as pallbearers will be Justin Hatchett, Alex Cochran, Landon Dickens, Hayden Dabney, Noah Dabney and Reid Dabney.

Visitation will be after 12 Noon Friday at the Carey & Son Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Gideons International or Hosparus of Green River.
