Mr. Jason Daniel Lester, 45, of Dobson, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday September 30, 2025.  Jason was born in Raleigh County, WV, on July 19, 1980, to his parents, James E. and Sheila L. Lester of Dobson.  Jason was preceded in death by his eldest sister, Beth Ann; his grandparents, Archie and Juanita Lester of WV, Jimmy and Patricia Lester of WV, and William “Howard” Whitt Sr. of NC; as well as many uncles and cousins.

In addition to his parents, Jason is survived by his older sister and brother-in-law, Rebecca L. and Adam King; three nieces, Emily King, Allison King, and Haley Payne; and his last living grandparent, Lillie M. Whitt of Indiana.  Jason also had two honorary brothers and their families, Tommy and April Payne and Micky and Erin Creed, along with their kids, including Maureen Carville.  Jason also had a very special friend, Deanna Lundy.

Jason was a hard worker from the time he was young.  He spent a couple of summers priming tobacco, then when he got older, he went into the “family business” of the construction trade between the school years alongside his dad, his brother-in-law, and host uncles.  During his senior year of high school, he decided that military service was his best route, and upon enlisting and graduating high school, he was sent to Fort Leonard Wood, MO, for training in the Army National Guard, 505th Engineer Brigade.  He was then called up for active duty a slight time later, where he was sent to Iraq.  Upon his completion, Jason returned home, receiving an honorable discharge for nine years of service.  Jason accomplished much in the military, receiving several accommodations, one being made Sgt.  Jason returned from war and went back to construction.  Then after some time, he transitioned to iron work.  He eventually returned to construction that he enjoyed.  It was “in his blood,” as that was said about him by a lot of his family.

Jason will be laid to rest Monday, October 6, 2025.  Visitation will be Monday from 1:00-2:00 PM at Moody-Davis Funeral Service in Dobson.  A funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM in the Moody-Davis Chapel, with Rev. Lorne Bryant officiating.  Following the service, Jason will be laid to rest in the Lester and Whitt Family Cemetery with military honors by Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Honor Guard Mt. Airy Post 2019 and Pilot Mountain Post 9436.  Moody-Davis Funeral Service in Dobson is serving the Lester family.
