James Lorimer Obituary

James Lorimer
Born: February 19, 1945 in Kankakee, IL
Died: January 8, 2026 in Utica, IL
Known to all as Jimmy or Cobby, he was born in Kankakee to James L. and Lillian (Thompson) Lorimer. He grew up in Illinois and South Carolina and died at his home in Utica, IL.
Jimmy was a Teamster for over 45 years. He worked for Harvey Clark Trucking, JP Wetherby, and then retired at Advanced Asphalt.
Jimmy is survived by his sister Mary (Doug) Hamel of Titusville, FL; his partner, Velma Legare; a nephew, Jake Ratliff; and several cousins who were lifelong friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and an older brother, Johnny.
Jimmy enjoyed visiting family in Florida and Texas in the winters and he and Velma took many trips to the Florida Keys after retirement. Jimmy shared his home with many pets over the years and was a go-to pet sitter for friends and family.
Jimmy will be remembered as sociable and gregarious and as someone who truly never met a stranger. As one friend noted, St Peter probably did not get a lot of work done the day Jimmy arrived at the Pearly Gates.
Per Jimmy's wishes no services are planned. Memorial donations may be made to Pet Project Inc, LaSalle County, IL.

So happy to have known Jim (Cobby as he was called in the business) when he worked with JP Wetherby and other construction companies. He was always on the job and on the ball, and busy keeping things running as they should. Also got to know him and Velma better after we both retired and I moved to Florida. What a great time we had. We will all miss his stories, laughter, (BS) and kindness. RIP Jim. Doug Willet
