James D. Lucas, known affectionately as Jim to his friends and family, passed away on July 24, 2025, in Indianapolis, Indiana. Born on May 23, 1961, in Franklin, Indiana, Jim spent his entire life cultivating a legacy of love, kindness, and an incredible sense of humor that would light up any room.

Jim's life was characterized by his enduring commitment to his family, a passion that was evident in every aspect of his existence. His beloved wife, Kimberly S. Lucas, stood by his side in support and love for many wonderful years. Together, they raised a family that includes two children, Kristen (Bradley) Stephens and James (Melissa) Lucas II. Jim's joy was multiplied with the addition of four grandchildren, Jasmine Stephens, Lily Stephens, Mackenzie Lucas, and Jackson Lucas.

Jim was a pillar of stability and love for his siblings, as a sister, Kathy Potts and brother to Joe McCoy. He took great pride in his relationships with them, building a lifetime of memories. Though he faced the tragedy of losing an infant child, his strength and compassion became a source of inspiration for all who knew him. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Dick & Norma Lucas, brother, Terry McCoy and son-in-law, Bradley Stephens.

Professionally, Jim dedicated over three decades of his life to the world of trucking, transporting goods and sharing stories with a smile. He was particularly proud of his 18-year tenure at Dayton Freight, where he was more than just an employee; he was a cherished colleague and friend.

Jim leaves behind a legacy of laughter and love. Whether he was telling jokes, making new friends - as he was known never to have met a stranger - or simply enjoying the great outdoors, Jim elevated the spirits of those around him. His love for fishing and hunting was only matched by his enjoyment of yard work, which was not just a chore but a pastime where he found peace and contentment.

Even as we mourn the loss of such a wonderful individual, we celebrate the extraordinary life that Jim lived. His remarkable journey through life's seasons has left an indelible mark on the hearts of his family, friends, and all who were graced by his presence. James D. Lucas will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered for the joy, companionship, and unwavering kindness he shared so freely.

Visitation will be Tuesday, July 29th from 2:00 pm – 4:00pm at Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Service & Crematory, Greenwood Chapel 481 W. Main Street, Greenwood, Indiana with funeral service starting at 4:00pm.
