James Doland Lucus, affectionately known to friends and family as “Buster,” passed away on February 17, 2025, at Wake Medical Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Born on May 9, 1949, in Harnett County, he led a life filled with kindness, generosity, and devotion to those he loved.
James dedicated his career to the electronic industry, retiring as a Purchasing Agent for Hagemeyer. His warm personality and willingness to assist those in need made him a cherished figure among colleagues and clients alike.
Those who knew Buster will remember him as a kind, sweet, and generous father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He had a profound love for his family and enjoyed spending precious moments with them, whether it was traveling or simply sharing stories and laughter. He took great pride in the lives of his children and grandchildren, always encouraging their dreams and celebrating their achievements.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Jessie Harper Lucus, and their three children: Son James Anthony "Tony" Lucus and his wife Tracy, Son Bryan Joseph Lucus and his girlfriend Jessica Turner, and Daughter Shannon Paige Lucus and her partner Heather McLamb. Buster's legacy continues through his grandchildren: Nathaniel Heitman Lucus and his wife Taylor, Baylie Blailock and her husband Ethan, Spencer Scott Lucus and his girlfriend Karlee Williams, Kassidy Anne Lucus and her fiancé Austin Baker, Ricky Dale Baker, and Ashley Nicole Berna and her wife Alyssa. Additionally, he was proud to be a great-grandfather to Caden Lee Baker, Sophia Marie Coronado, and Xander Cole Coronado.
Buster is also survived by his sister, Mary Ann Lucus Nance, and her husband Duren, as well as his sister-in-law, Melinda Moses Carlyle, and her husband Tony. He shared a special bond with several loving nieces and nephews who will carry forward his memory.
He rejoined his parents, Herman Heitman Lucus and Annie Louise Willis Lucus, in eternal rest.
Visitation and memorial services will be held on February 23, 2025, at Hickory Grove Advent Christian Church, located at 1232 Hickory Grove Church Road in Four Oaks, North Carolina. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM, followed by a memorial service from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
James Doland Lucus will be profoundly missed by all whose lives he touched, but his spirit will remain alive in the hearts of his family and friends.
