Daniel Kane Lucus, age 43, passed away unexpectedly on November 19, 2024, at his home in Willis, Texas. He was born to David Lucus and Jan Root Becker on January 10, 1981, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Daniel's life was a journey of hard work and passion. He grew up in Conroe, Texas, attending Armstrong Elementary and Reaves Intermediate School. He continued his education in Huron, South Dakota, and Canute, Oklahoma, before graduating from Wolsey, South Dakota, in 1999.
Daniel found his calling in the oil and gas industry. After studying at Huron University and East Central University in Ada, Oklahoma, he trained at Baker Hughes Drilling Fluids Technology School in Tomball, Texas. He worked as a respected consultant for many companies. He was looking forward to returning to Marathon Oil in January 2025-showing his passion for the industry and commitment to his career.
More than just his work, Daniel loved life to the fullest. Basketball was his favorite sport, and he grew up spending many late nights playing with neighborhood friends. He was a former Cub Scout with values of community and adventure, especially for offshore fishing. Daniel was an avid book and antiques collector and enjoyed playing video games with his children. A memorable trip with his mother, Jan, stepfather, Mike, and stepbrother Michael, to see Phantom of the Opera in New York City sparked his love for the arts.
His grandparents, Phillip and Helen, played a big part in his life. Phillip baptized him on December 8, 1999, and they were always proud of him. Daniel was incredibly close to his mother, talking or texting her almost daily. He was a loving father who enjoyed creating memories with his children, whether decorating for holidays or trying new foods.
Daniel was a true sports fan who cheered for the Houston Astros and Oklahoma City Thunder. He was known for his kindness.
Daniel will be remembered for his love of family, hard work, and ability to enjoy life's simple and grand moments. He is survived by his family and many friends who will miss his warm spirit.
Daniel was preceded in death by his father, David Lucus; his stepbrother, Michael Becker; and his beloved grandparents, Ralph Sr. and Doris Lucus and Phillip and Helen Root.
His five children survive him: Jocelynn Lucus (Diedrich Offt), Payton Lucus, Chloey Lucus, Mason Lucus, and Kimberlin Lucus; his granddaughter, Lennix Offt; his mother, Jan, and stepfather, Michael Becker, M.D.; his sister, Devon Becker; and stepsister, Meredith Upshaw, and her husband, Brandon, and their daughters, Addison and Madeline-also, many dear uncles, aunts, beloved cousins, and extended family.
A Celebration of Life will be held on December 7, 2024, at 11 a.m. at North Shore Church, 18501 FM 1097, Montgomery, TX 77356.
