SALEM - James Edward MacKenzie, 92, of Salem Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on February 20, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Born on May 20, 1933, Jim lived a long and devoted life centered on family, and hard work.
Jim was the beloved husband of Sandra Jean (Ingemi) MacKenzie. He was a devoted father to Jim Regan and his wife Stephanie ; Ronnie Deschenes and his partner Martha Collins; Randy Deschenes and his wife Lisa; Jeffrey Folsom and his wife Jennifer, as well as his best friend, Lester Roush and his wife, Donna.
He was predeceased by his cherished daughter, Darlene.
Known lovingly as “Poppy,” Jim was the proud grandfather of 17 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, each of whom brought him immense joy. His family was his greatest accomplishment, and he treasured every gathering, celebration, and moment spent together.
Jim began his working life as a skilled carpenter and roofer, trades that reflected his strong work ethic and steady hands. In his later years before retirement, he served as Head Custodian for Marblehead Public Schools, where he was respected for his reliability, dedication, and pride in caring for the school community.
Jim will be remembered for his unwavering love for his family, his steady presence, and the example he set through a lifetime of hard work and devotion. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved him.
ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are invited to Jim’s funeral service to be held on Friday, February 27, 2026 at 11AM at O’Donnell Cremations-Funerals-Celebrations, 167 Maple St, DANVERS. Visiting hours will be held prior to the service from 9AM to 11AM. Burial to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, 226 North Street, Salem. In lieu of flowers please send donations in honor of Jim to the National Pancreatic Cancer Foundation, P.O.
