James Wayne Malugin, 76, a retired CSX Railroad employee and resident of Columbia, passed away on Thursday, February 20, 2025, at his home.

Born on February 18, 1949, in Columbia, TN, he was the son of Charles and Helen Virginia Vick Ashley and James Robert Malugin Jr. On November 22, 1975, he married Doris Ann “Dottie” Carroll, with whom he shared nearly 50 years of marriage.

Wayne proudly served his country as a medic in the United States Army. He was the former owner of The Fitness Attic in Lewisburg, TN, and a member of Caney Springs Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters, Dawn Marie (Steve) Allen of Corbin, KY, and Sarah Beth Malugin of Columbia, TN; his son, Zachary Keith (Marsha) Townsend of Chapel Hill, TN; six grandchildren: Kyler (Grace) Allen, Jake Townsend, Mallory Allen, Bailey Allen, Berkley Allen, and Copper Malugin; sisters, Shirley (Bobby) Fox and Patricia Jackson; and five nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Christine Burgett; and a beloved nephew, Eddie Riggins.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 8th, 2025 at 2:00 PM at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home, with military honors provided by the Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The Family will visit with friends Saturday, March 8th, 2025 from 12:00 PM until the service time at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to The Way church building fund in Chapel Hill, TN. Online condolences may be shared at www.oakesandnichols.com.
