James Robert Mattingly, a cherished resident of Crestwood, Kentucky, passed away on December 15, 2024, at the age of 71, with his devoted wife, Betty Mattingly, by his side. Born on November 30, 1953, in Louisville, Kentucky, James was a dedicated individual whose contributions and presence will be deeply missed.
For over 40 years, James worked diligently as a line worker for General Electric, demonstrating a strong work ethic and unwavering commitment to his trade. His drive and enthusiasm extended beyond his career into his personal life, where he was celebrated as a free spirit and a loyal friend. James was not only hardworking and motivated but also a loving husband, father, and grandfather, with his family being his proudest accomplishment.
James graduated from Moore High School, laying the foundation for a life filled with achievement and purpose. He was particularly passionate about horse racing, owning and raising many winning harness horses for over 25 years. This diligent pursuit afforded him numerous awards and medals, showcasing his expertise in horse handicapping and wagering.
Beyond his professional pursuits, James treasured spending time with his family and friends, creating lasting memories that will be cherished by those he loved. He is survived by his beloved wife, Betty Mattingly; his father, Joe "Pa" Mattingly; daughters Stephanie Lynn Young and Sylvia Renee (Joshua) Hammons; grandchildren Grayson Scot Hammons, Kaleb M Hammons, and Remedy Renee Hammons; sisters Cherie Hinkle and Tammi Hall; and brother Joe (Michelle) Mattingly, and many loving nieces, nephews, friends and family.
James was preceded in death by his mother, Marjorie Coleman; step-father Jim Coleman; and daughter Stacey Marie Mattingly.
The remembrance of James Robert Mattingly will be honored with a visitation on December 27, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM, followed by a funeral service beginning at 12:30 PM, both held at Newcomer Funeral Home, East Louisville located at 235 Juneau Dr, Louisville, KY 40243. Subsequently, burial services will take place at Floydsburg Cemetery Company in Crestwood, KY at 2:00 PM.
James's legacy as a compassionate individual, dedicated family man, and community member will remain in the hearts of all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
