James McCalla Obituary
James grew up in Newnan, GA, graduated from Newnan High School in 1966. He was a proud graduate from North Georgia Military College in 1970. After College he joined the U.S. Army where he was stationed in Fort Knox Kentucky and Fort Ord in Monterey, California. After his military service, he moved back to Georgia and started his tax business, Newnan Tax and Accounting. He loved to travel and was very proud of having visited every state in the country.
Survivors include wife Linda Mitchell; sons, Brantley (Geneva) McCalla, Matthew McCalla, Eric (Holly) Mitchell, Patrick (Jane) Mitchell; daughters, Devin McCalla Barfield (Joe), Jennifer Mitchell (Raymond Gonzalez); brothers Richard McCalla, Bill (Laurie) McCalla, Michael McCalla; and sister Jeanne McCalla; grandchildren, Clayton Shell, Ashlee Head, Amberly Nelson, Ethan and Wilson McCalla, Reid and Bonnie James Barfield, Claire, Callie, Elizabeth, and Stephen Mitchell.
The memorial is Saturday, December 20, 2025, at 11:00 at Newnan Presbyterian Church, 38 Greenville St., Newnan, with Rev. David A. Jones, II officiating, with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to Friends of Georgia State Parks, National Park Foundation, or Boy Scouts of America. Please consider donating blood to the American Red Cross.

Linda and the rest of James's family. My condolences for your loss. It's my loss as well. He had done our taxes since we moved here to GA 2001 from New Jersey. And he helped me by continuing to do our taxes when I lost my husband. I had no idea what to do. He had patience, a sense of humor and great guidance to give. Linda, you and James quickly became friends to me. I will miss James but I will carry the lovely memories of him laughing and smiling at my crazy questions when we spoke.
He was the Newnan Tax Man to see!

James you will be missed my friend . For 30 plus years you have served my family providing your Tax expertise. Recently we where required to meet with you mid year. As usual James set a time met with us , provided his time, knowledge and guidance protecting us from impact. Mrs. McCalla , James loved you he always shared with us how important you were to him and his family . We will be ever grateful to the One & Only James the Tax professional man in Newnan, GA.
