JAMES A. McCLENNY
DOTHAN… James A. McClenny, a resident of Dothan, Alabama. Passed away Sunday night, May 12, 2024, Signature Health Care in Graceville, Florida. He was 88.
Funeral services will be held 3:00 P.M. Thursday, May 16, 2024 at Wright Funeral Home & Crematory Chapel with Reverend Tim Gay officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Headland, Alabama. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 P.M. prior to the service. Wright Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church – Headland Building Fund, 301 East Church Street, Headland, Alabama 36345.
Mr. McClenny was born August 17, 1935 in Henry County, Alabama to the late Woodrow Wilson McClenny and Lillie Mae Gamble McClenny. He lived in the Newville, Alabama area during his youthful years. He was a 1954 graduate of Newville High School, where he stood out on the football team. He was a proud Newville Bearcat. He had also lived in the Headland, Alabama area for some time before moving to the Dothan, Alabama area. He was retired from the State of Alabama Highway Department as an engineer. Mr. James also served his country in the US Army National Guard, where he achieved the rank of CWO3. He was an avid Alabama fan. He was a former member of the Headland Jaycees. He loved to play golf, and was proud to be an USPGA Golf-Marshall. Mr. McClenny was a member of the First Baptist Church – Headland.
Along with his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brothers, Jerry McClenny and Joseph McClenny.
Leaving to cherish his memories are his daughters, Beth Givens (Mark) and Diane Avery (Phillip); his sister, Nancy Henderson (Roger); his brother, Charles McClenny (Becky); his grandchildren; Abby McKay, Grant Givens (Lindsey), Laurabeth Thomas, Tye Avery, Alec Avery (Morgan); his great-grandchildren, Lilly Grant McKay, Piper Givens, and Ella Thomas; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends.
