James Francis "Jim" McCloy, born January 18, 1938, in Dover, N.J., passed away on May 10, 2025.
A proud veteran, Jim served six years in both the United States Marines and Army. He retired in 2004 after 16 years with the Florida Department of Financial Services, where he held leadership roles including Legislative Affairs Director, Emergency Coordinating Officer, and Continuity of Operations Coordinator. He played a key role in disaster preparedness, notably after Hurricane Andrew in 1992, and helped establish the "Partners in Recovery" program with the Florida Insurance Council.
Jim is survived by his wife of 47 years, Angela Hanna McCloy; sister, Katherine Bowen; son, John Paul; daughter-in-law, Brenda; grandson, Grant and granddaughter, Hannah Grace. He was predeceased by his parents, James Patrick McCloy and Helen Gunn Cunningham McCloy and sisters, Helen Austin and Mary Palanchi.
An avid tennis player, Jim founded the Tallahassee Tennis Association, served on its board for 20 years, and captained competitive teams. In his later years, he enjoyed competitive billiards, poker and cooking.
A celebration of Jim's life will held at 11:00 a.m. May 29, 2025 at Good Shepard Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Big Bend Hospice.

Sad news. I first met Jim through our shared intererst in tennis. I was PA state champion for several years. Later, after I started competing in eating contests, we had great conversations about favorite recipes. He was a great guy and will be missed by all who knew him.
