James Richard McCubbins, 82, of Clifton Hill, MO, died Friday, August 22, 2025 at Harry S Truman VA Hospital in Columbia, MO. James was born July 24, 1943 in Chariton County, MO the son of Joe Lee and Nancy Marie (Gheens) McCubbins.

James attended Salisbury High School, but at the age of 17 he became a Kiddy Cruiser and joined the U.S. Navy. He served in the Navy for little over 3 years and was honorably discharged on July 23, 1964. While in the Navy he played on a championship fast pitch softball team. He returned home a worked on the railroad, then attend electronic school while working at Ford Motor Company, and then was a technician for Southwestern Bell until his retirement. In 1983 he purchased Mac's Cove Campground and Marina. He spent his summers attending to the campground and marina, and spent his winters in Texas dancing most evenings away. He was a member of the CWA Local 6311, Moberly Masonic Lodge and Salisbury Christian Church. He was always honored to give blood to the American Red Cross. He enjoyed being on the lake, fishing, hunting and spending time with family.

James is survived by 2 sons Ricky McCubbins (Rachel Gordon) of Clifton Hill, MO, Darrell McCubbins of Clifton Hill, MO, grandchildren Kale (Ashley) McCubbins of Salisbury, MO, Danell (Brad) Rice of Clifton Hill, MO, Jearmy (Allison) McCubbins of Clifton Hill, MO, great grandchildren James, Clara, Hudson Baylor, Lucas, Rosella, Lottie, Isaac, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson Jamey McCubbins, daughter-in-law Charlotte McCubbins and sister Marjorie Hopper.

Visitation is Friday, August 29, 2025 from 1-3:00 p.m. with services and Military Honors following at 3:00 p.m. all at the Summerville Funeral Home in Salisbury.

So sorry for your loss Jim and I had many good times dancing in Texas pontoon rides on the lake ice cream with Lucy he was very proud of his family he will be missed
