James Eugene McHugh, 89, passed away peacefully on July 20, 2025, surrounded by his family. We are sad to say goodbye, but he is pain free to start dancing again.
There will be a celebration of life for both James and his late wife, Jewel (nee-Golston) for family and friends on Friday, August 1, 2025, from 3:00 – 6:30pm at Westshore Unitarian Universalist Church, 20401 Hilliard Boulevard, Rocky River, OH 44116. Please park to the left of the building and follow the hallway to the Chapel. Food and refreshments will be served. The building is handicapped accessible.
James was born September 1, 1935, in Cleveland, Ohio to the late James and Melba (nee-Earhart) McHugh.
He grew up in Cleveland and proudly served in the U.S Air Force in 1953. After serving his country, James met Jewel and they married and had three children: Joyce (Dave), James (Letty), and John (Robin).
His strong work ethic influenced his children and grandchildren. His smile and ever pleasant demeanor were enduring qualities. Jim loved watching sports, especially his favorite team, Ohio State. He cherished spending time with his grandchildren: Jennifer, John Allen, Daniela, JoAnna, and Ariana. He loved spending time with his great grandchildren: Grace, Nicholas, Victoria, Alexander, Genevieve, Christian, and new great grandbaby, Julian.
A private internment with full military honors will be on September 3, 2025, at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Rittman, Ohio.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America. To plant a beautiful memorial tree in memory of James, please visit our Tree Store.
