James Yost "Mike" McNabb Jr.

James Yost McNabb Jr. "Mike", husband, dad, and gramps passed away at his home on April 16, 2025. Mike was born on March 4, 1949, to the late JY and Johnnie Ruth Mc Nabb. Mike married his high school sweetheart in 1972, Doris (Russell) McNabb and together, they raised two children, Jay McNabb and Emily (Jeremy) Lorenz. The light of Mike's life were his four grandchildren, Tucker "Big T", Rylee "Sissy" Lorenz and Juniper "June Bug" McNabb and, most recently, gained a granddaughter from Spain, Irene "sleepy head". He is also survived by his siblings, Gail (Peno) Campbell, and Ronnie (Connie) McNabb; numerous extended family members including "Bumper" Webster and his hunting buddies, Mike Thompson, Mike Brackett, Shawn Lambert, and former Y-12 friends. After serving 6 years in the Army National Guard, Mike trained as a machinist, which served him well at Maremont Manufacturing and later, Y-12 Nuclear Plant. Mike held several positions while at Y-12 with the most recent being, maintenance supervisor of the steam plant. After a fulfilling 44 years at Y-12 he decided to retire in 2024, to spend more time with his family doing the things that they love: hunting, fishing, tending to summer gardens, and overlooking the McNabb family farm. He spent countless hours at the field watching Tucker play baseball, in a basketball gym rooting for Rylee, listening to Juniper playing cello in the Knoxville Junior Symphony Orchestra, or his nightly facetime calls with Irene. A service honoring and remembering Mike McNabb will be held Sunday, April 27th 3:00pm-6:00pm at The Farm at Morris Springs (436 Old Sweetwater Road, Sweetwater, TN 37874) with a time of reflection to be held at 4:30pm.
