James Marshall McQuerrey died on January 6, 2025, shortly after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. His selfless compassion and quiet humor endured to the moment of his passing. He is sorely missed.
In all that he did, James exemplified the heart of a servant, humbly caring for others and offering his abilities without expecting recognition or reward. He was known to show up with his trumpet or homemade banana bread, just to brighten someone's day.
He was an active member of Colts Neck Reformed Church, where he sang in the choir and played the handbells. He was also a member and conductor of Alleluia Jazz and worked at Home Depot in Freehold. Before retiring to New Jersey (and always saying with a grin - "Who retires to New Jersey? This guy!"), James played French horn in the West Virginia Symphony, was the band and choir director at Sissonville High School and was the music director at Bible Center Church in Charleston, West Virginia.
James is survived by his wife of nearly sixty years, Brenda McQuerrey, his daughters, Alicia McQuerrey and Jamie Bennett, his son-in-law, Christopher Bennett, and his grandchildren, Lola McQuerrey, Tyrell Bennett, Reggie Bennett, Reed Bennett, and Ashanah Bennett; and two sisters, Janet Willis and Helen McQuerrey.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Colts Neck Reformed Church, Benevolence Fund, online giving.
A memorial service will be held at Colts Neck Reformed Church at 11 a.m. on April 12, 2025, when many of James' favorite flowers will be starting to bloom.

Jim was a delightful man, and will be sorely missed. He and Brenda were dear friends of our family when they lived in WV. He had a delicious sense of humor, a ready helping hand, and a beautiful soul. Not to mention dynamite skills on the French Horn and a beautiful singing voice. Love and prayers to the family.
