James Michael "Moose" Meads, 64 of Elizabeth City, NC, died at his residence on Friday, January 3, 2025. He was born in Pasquotank County on April 15, 1960, to Sybil Edwards Meads and the late Charles Cartwright Meads. He was the beloved husband to Glaiza Fuenteblanca Meads, where they shared a life filled with love, laughter, and mutual respect. Their journey together was marked by unwavering support and shared dreams, creating a legacy that will endure in the hearts of all who knew them.
Throughout his life, Mike served as a NC Wildlife Officer, where he demonstrated his deep commitment to protecting nature's most precious resources. Known for his steadfast resolve and empathetic spirit, he not only upheld the law, but also inspired those around him to do better and be better. His work was not just a career; it was a calling that he answered with passion and grace. He also was a firefighter in Elizabeth City. Mike was a member of Fountain of Life Church, coached football at Northeastern High School and softball at College of the Albemarle. Mike enjoyed walking, running marathons, fishing, and hunting, and in his younger days, he loved bull-frogging.
In addition to his wife and mother, Mike is survived by his brother, Jeffery Meads, and his two cats, Lucylu and Scully. A man of unwavering dedication and integrity, Mike was a beacon of strength and compassion to all who knew him.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to the SPCA of Northeastern NC, 102 Enterprise Drive, Elizabeth City, NC 27909.
Mike left an indelible mark on the world. His courage, kindness, and unwavering moral compass serve as a guiding light for all who had the privilege of knowing him. Though he is no longer with us, his spirit and the lessons he imparted will continue to inspire and guide us.
