James P. Mehall, also known as Jim, 79, of New Windsor, Illinois, died Monday, September 13, 2021, at Mercer Manor Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Aledo.
Cremation will take place at Trimble Crematory, Moline, Illinois, under the direction of Cremation Society of the Quad Cities.

James Patrick Mehall was born August 28, 1942, in Matherville, Illinois, the son of Michael and Elizabeth (Bonick) Mehall.

He was an owner/operator truck driver for many years and also drove for Trailways Bus Lines and was a retired Teamsters truck driver.

Jim was a member of St. John, Catholic Church in Woodhull, Illinois. He made many friends during his life, both in Albuquerque NM and in Illinois and Iowa. He traveled to Australia, New Zealand, England, Germany, and many other places, approximately 18 countries in all.

He had a passion for the way mechanical things worked, especially trains, trucks and tractors. He loved tinkering, had a knack for it, and was always available to help neighbors and friends with anything that needed fixed. He could always diagnose how to fix the problem and what part you needed even over the phone.

Jim loved polka music and would drive up to a few hundred miles just to hear his favorite bands, particularly Jerry Beachumn's Country & Western band out of IA. Ladies would ask him to dance, but he would always tell them, "I'm just here for the music."

Jim is survived by two sisters and brothers-in-law, Marilyn and David Schwartzkopf of Aledo, and Margie and Rob Docherty of Kentucky; several nieces; his best friends, Bob and Mary Hodnett of New Mexico, and Jerry Nelson of Springfield, Illinois; and many good friends and close neighbors, including Nick and Jessica Billiet, and their three children. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, George and Mike Mehall.

To all who knew him, we wish him goodbye and safe travels!
