James J. Mengel, 58, a resident of Pottsville, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 2nd, 2025.

James was born in Pottsville, the son of the late Mildred (Maroukis) Mengel and Carl Mengel of Pottsville. He attended Pottsville High School, and was last employed by the Pottsville Area School District in the maintenance department of the high school. Prior to that, he worked as a tree surgeon for Jaflo of Allentown.

A former member of St. Joseph's Church in Pottsville, James was an altar server in his younger years. He was currently a member of St. Patrick's Church. James was always joking around and had a knack for imitating people, and loved spending time with his family and friends. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman.

In addition to his father Carl Mengel, James is survived by two sisters, Catharine Lukach and Lynn (Mengel) Memeke. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Nicole Lukach, Jojo Lukach, Natalie Mengel, Joshua Senkus and Javon Memeke, along with great nieces and great nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 7th, 2025 at the Schlitzer Allen Pugh Funeral Home, 515 West Market Street, Pottsville. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a viewing at the funeral home from 9-11 AM prior to the service.

James will be laid to rest at the Schuylkill Memorial Park, immediately following the service.
