James Michael “Mike” Minish, 72, passed away on January 26, 2026.A native of Commerce, Georgia, he was the son of the late Willie Ruth Duncan Minish and James Otis Minish.
Mike proudly served his country in the United States Navy, retiring after twenty years of honorable service. He later retired from the United States Postal Service after fifteen years of dedicated service.
Mike was a hard worker who took great pride in providing for his family and helping others whenever he could. He loved people and was always willing to lend a hand. In his free time, he especially enjoyed fishing and spending time with his grandchildren—teaching them about baseball and fishing, and creating memories they will cherish forever. Mike deeply loved his sons and his family, and his life was truly centered around them.
Mike is survived by his loving wife of fifty years, Diane Porterfield Minish; his sons, Lance Minish (Jennifer Minish), Derrick Minish, and Brent Minish; and his three grandchildren, Ashton Minish, Christian Minish, and Maverick Minish.
He is also survived by his sisters, Sara Voyle and Martha Burroughs (Douglas Burroughs); his brothers, Ricky Minish and Randy Minish (Cathy Minish); and his father-in-law, Alvin C. King, and mother-in-law, Josephine King.
Funeral services will be held Monday, February 2, 2026, at 2:00 PM at the chapel of Lord and Stephens Funeral Home, East, in Athens.
