He graduated from Palestine High School in 1954; after graduation, he enlisted in the Air Force, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. Jimmy attended both Texas A & M, College Station and the University of Texas at Austin. In 1976, Jimmy and his family moved to the Austin area, where they remained for the next 50 years.

Later in life, he found another outlet for his creativity through painting. These handmade treasures were gifted to his children, adding lasting beauty to their homes and lives. After retirement, he found fulfillment in giving back to his community by volunteering at Seton Northwest Hospital.

In his career, he worked as a general contractor, estimator, and project manager. Working on such projects as; The Railyard apartments, The Emergency Operations Center at the DPS, MD Anderson Research Center as well as other building renovations across Central Texas
