Dr. James Irwin Moulthrop Sr.

James (Jim) Moulthrop, 88, longtime resident of Gainesville, Florida, died Monday, July 16, 2024, at his residence in Virginia Beach, Virginia following a long illness.
Dr. James Moulthrop was the eldest son, born on April 10, 1936, in College Park, Maryland, to the late Irwin Morrison & Ann Elizabeth Wolfe Moulthrop. He grew up with his brother, Bruce in Salisbury, MD, attended college at the University of Maryland, completed his D.V.M. at the University of Georgia, and subsequently, married Raye Christine Slade.
Jim began his veterinary career specializing in large animals on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. He became a foreign service officer for the U.S. Department of Agriculture in locations all around the world including: Rome, Italy, Washington, D. C, Mexico City, and Kuala Lumpur. In this capacity, Jim maintained the highest degree of integrity and security for the United States agricultural production. Jim's focus was always ensuring his family's well-being, completing his professional obligations with excellence, scouting, and travelling internationally.
After his retirement, Jim and Raye made their home in Gainesville, FL. Jim was an active and faithful member of Servants of Christ Anglican Church. Jim was known for his vast array of knowledge, his great sense of humor, and his desire to connect with the many care-takers who provided for his comfort.
He is predeceased by his wife, Raye Slade, and survived by: his son, James I. ( Eileen) Moulthrop of California; his two daughters, Kimberly M. (Juan Carlos) Phillips of Virginia, and Pamela M. (Lorne) Davidson of Virginia; and his six grandchildren, Morgan (Aaron), Brooklynne, Jackson, Kevin, Dylan, Liv, his great-grandson, Jameson, and his brother W. Bruce Moulthrop.
A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at a later date to be announced
