Mary Goodman- Franz Obituary

The family of Mary Susan "Sue" Goodman Franz is saddened to announce her passing on June 20, 2025 at the age of 68.
Sue is survived by her husband George; her stepdaughters Megan Risen (Mike) and Amanda Krovic (Adam); her granddaughters Catherine, Anne, Faire, and Wynne; her mother Barbara Jean Goodman; her sister Carolyn Putnam (Colin); her brothers Glenn Goodman and Alan Goodman (Torrie); her nieces and nephews Lauren Davis (Brad), Tyler Bruce (Jessica), Amy Sadler (Jon), and Tristan Goodman; her great-nieces and nephews Jonas, Abel, Amelia, and Abby. She will be missed by many dear friends, including Maryanne Kane and Dr. Mark Socio. Sue is preceded in death by her father Ernest Goodman. Sue was born on January 28, 1957 in Richmond, VA. She grew up in Peaks, and graduated from Lee-Davis High School (Mechanicsville) in 1975. Sue's professional career spanned over four decades in the eye care industry. Sue faithfully served thousands of patients and made many friends along the way.
In 1992, Sue moved to Virginia Beach, where she met George. Sue and George loved the Outer Banks and they loved camping in "DBUS"; they sealed their commitment in marriage at one of their favorite places– Ocracoke Island. Sue and George made their home in Shadowlawn, and enjoyed many long bike rides and backyard gatherings with neighbors. The daughter of two avid gardeners, Sue was proud to grow "Hanover tomatoes" (among other crops and flowers) in her Virginia Beach backyard.
Sue's home, affectionately dubbed "The 9th Street B&B" had an open-door policy. Sue was never too busy to make each and every guest feel like close family.
Sue was special to many people, but one of the roles she took most seriously was that of "aunt." From leading youth group at Slash Christian Church to hosting many a lively sleepover, "Aunt Sue-Sue" poured herself into her youngest family members. Sue was fun and she was fearless. Her loss will be felt greatly by her entire family.
During her courageous three-and-a-half year battle with pancreatic cancer, Sue remained positive and focused on serving and uplifting others who shared her journey. Sue lived by the Golden Rule. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you "live like Sue" and pay her kindness forward by doing something unexpected for a friend, family member, or stranger. If desired, donations may be made in Sue's name to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCAN (Pancreatic Cancer Action Network).org).
Sue's final selfless act was application to Anatomy Gifts Registry, where she has been accepted and will continue to help further medical knowledge around pancreatic cancer and other terminal illnesses.
Join us for a celebration of Sue's life with visitation on Saturday, July 19, at 11 am at Slash Christian Church, 11353 Mt Hermon Rd, Ashland, VA 23005, where services will commence at 12 pm, followed by a reception.
Details regarding the celebration of life service in Virginia Beach will be forthcoming. To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of Mary Susan "Sue" Goodman- Franz, please visit our floral store.
