James Lester Mowrer, 90, of Wooster, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 12, 2025 at Ohio's Life Care Hospice after a period of declining health.
Jim was born on May 11, 1934 in Wooster to Floyd and Edith (Smith) Mowrer and was a 1954 graduate of Norwayne High School. On June 26, 1955 he married Sara June Richard and Jim and Sara shared nearly 70 wonderful years together. Jim served in the National Guard for 8 years and retired from I-Med Medical Plastics Division on Mira Mesa, CA and had previously worked at Anaheim Plastics. Jim was a member of Canaan Lutheran Church and enjoyed fishing, camping and motorcycle trips with his children. He was a "Mr. Fix It" who was always busy and he enjoyed traveling across the County to spend time with his grandchildren.
Surviving is his wife, Sara; his children, Melinda "Mindy" and Rod Dodgen of Flagstaff, AZ, Jeffrey James and Kelly Mowrer of Eagle Point, OR, Todd Lester and Carol Mowrer of Wausau, WI and Amy Kay and Richard Todd Wishon of Bothell, WA; 20 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and 2 great great-grandchildren and a sister, Edith LaVonne Steele of Loveland, OH.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Robin Acosta, his parents, brothers, Richard, Welker, Robert and Roger and sisters, Donna Ogi, Marjean Myers and infant Charlene Mowrer.
Services will be Friday, Jan. 17th at 2:00 p.m. at Canaan Lutheran Church with Pastor Marty Jacobson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 12:00 noon until time of services at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Ohio's Hospice LifeCare, 1900 Akron Rd., Wooster, OH 44691. Murray Funeral Home in Creston is handling arrangements.
