On Saturday, February 22, 2025, James "Jim)" Monroe Mullins, age 93 of Jackson, Ohio departed this world to be with his Lord and Savior. Jim was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Jim is survived by his wife of 70 years, Rose, his children, grandchildren, great-granddaughter, sister, Vernie Fields of Florida & many nieces and nephews.
Jim was born on November 1, 1931, to John Wesley Mullins and Janie (Addington) Mullins in Pikeville, Kentucky He was the 7th of thirteen children born to John & Janie. He was preceded in death by his parents and all but one sibling. Preceding him are his brothers, Truman (Chelsea) Mullins, Raymond Mullins, John Jr. (Vesta) Mullins, Milburn Mullins, Martin (Mossie) Mullins, Noble Lee (Esta) Mullins, Fearl Mullins (infant), and Charles (Sue) Mullins; and sisters, Aileen (Arnold) Mullins, Barbara Dean Beatty, Geneva (Lovell) Profitt, & Lillian Childers.
In the late 1940s, the family moved to Jackson, Ohio, where Jim attended and graduated from Jackson High School in 1952. Jim was an avid athlete, who participated in football, basketball, and track. In August 1952, Jim joined the United States Army, where he was a medic during the Korean War. He was discharged from service in July of 1954. After discharge, Jim returned home to Jackson. He then married the love of his life, Rosetta Amburgey. They started their life together in Coalton, Ohio and in later years, moved back to Jackson.
The couple was blessed with four children: Randy (Frances) Mullins, James R. Mullins, and Stephanie L. Mullins all of Jackson, Ohio, Bryan (Linda) Mullins of Dundas, Ohio; six grandchildren: J.R. (Jennifer) Mullins, Johnathan Mullins, Jacob Mullins, and Tawny Mullins all of Jackson, Ohio, Whitney (J.J.) Edelinski of Columbus, Ohio, and Dakota Mullins of great-grandchild, Jasmine I. Mullins of Winchester, Kentucky.
Jim was a well-known businessman, where he served the city of Wellston for over 55 years as owner and operator of Mullins Barber Shop. After which, he retired, leaving the family business to his youngest son, Bryan, who currently continues to operate the shop.
Jim loved his family, was a true beekeeper for many, many years and an avid University of Kentucky Wildcats basketball fan.
Services will be held on Wednesday, February 26, 2025 from 11 am-1 pm with services to follow at Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home in Jackson. Burial will be at Buckeye Church Cemetery following the service.
