In Loving Memory of Sarah (Parry) Mutzig August 18, 1934 – July 29, 2025

Sarah Parry Mutzig, age 90, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, at Middleton Assisted Living in Granville, Ohio. She was surrounded by her adoring children, and she left behind a legacy of love, kindness, and quiet strength.

Sally, as she was lovingly known, was born on August 18, 1934, in Columbus, Ohio, to Hollis Parry and Mabel (Fisher) Parry. Sally’s life was marked by a deep sense of compassion, kindness, generosity, and an unwavering devotion to family and friends.

She grew up in a close-knit community and graduated from Jackson High School in 1952. She then furthered her education at Stephens College in Missouri before transferring to The Ohio State University. There, she earned her degree in Occupational Therapy in 1956. While in college, Sally was a proud member of the Kappa Delta sorority and spent two joyful summers as a camp counselor at Red Raiders Camp.

After college, Sally worked as an occupational therapist at Rollman Receiving Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio, from 1956 to 1959. On October 25, 1959, she married Paul B. Mutzig Jr. and returned to Jackson.

Sally’s presence in the Jackson community was both steady and spirited. She gave generously her time and heart through the Jackson Women’s League and Study Club, and she was a faithful supporter of the Markay Theatre and the Southern Hills Arts Council. A devoted member of the First Presbyterian Church, she served as a deacon and elder, and could often be found making fudge for the Jackson County Apple Festival.

She found joy in life’s simple pleasures: a game of bridge with friends, a classical symphony performance, a good book by her side, or the sun on her shoulders during cherished time on Sanibel Island. While on the island, she also looked forward to working at Why Knot, a retail clothing store, where she enjoyed connecting with customers and friends alike. Sally also enjoyed traveling with her family to San Francisco on frequent trips. She equally loved to travel outside of the United States, including various countries in Europe, and particularly enjoyed a beautiful river cruise touring the region.

But above all, she was a devoted mother, a nurturing nana, a loyal sister, and a steadfast friend.

Sally was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Paul B. Mutzig Jr., and her beloved sister, Ann (Parry) Billman.

She is survived by her children, Susan Lee (Bob) Otter, Sara (Perry) Frey, and Daniel Paul Mutzig; her sister, Lynn Parry (Milton) Cuppy of Carmel, Indiana; and, her six treasured grandchildren: Jack Mutzig, Lily Mutzig, and Isabella Mannai-Mutzig; Kate Frey; and Caroline and Bobby Otter. Each of them carries forward her legacy of love and kindness.

A remembrance gathering will be held on Friday, September 12, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home, Jackson, Ohio.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 225 Church St, Jackson, Ohio. Interment will follow at Fairmount Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family invites those who wish to honor Sally’s memory to consider a donation to the Southern Hills Arts Council/Markay Cultural Arts Center— an organization close to her heart. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.lewisgillum.com.
