JAMES P. "JIM" MURRAY III – of Woburn, died peacefully surrounded by family, after a long battle with cancer, on August 25th at the age of seventy.
Born in Brighton, Jim was cherished as the son of the late Priscilla M. (Deegan) and James P. Murray Jr. At an early age, he and his family moved to Woburn and after living in a number of places for work he returned to his hometown when he retired to take care of his mom. Following his graduation from Woburn High School, he went on to attend Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
During his time at WPI, Jim developed a deep passion for engineering, which laid the foundation for his prolific career. His dedication to his profession was matched only by his compassion and generosity towards others. For many years, he served as a project manager for The O'Connor Companies, overseeing the construction of numerous power plants throughout the Northeast. Prior to that he worked for the Perini Company, and lived in Israel for over two years while helping to build Negev Air Force Base.
His adventurous spirit extended beyond his professional achievements. Jim liked to ski and while working in Israel, spent some time delighting in the thrill of the Swiss Alps with friends. He also enjoyed wind surfing and surfing in the Gulf of Aqaba. His hobbies included restoring an old GTO when he was a teenager, target shooting, travel, photography, attending his niece and nephew's sporting events, going out to eat, visiting friends and reading. Jim's passion for life was evident not only in his travels but also in the cherished relationships he cultivated with his family and friends. As a beloved brother, uncle, and son, he was always more than willing to help out and do whatever was needed to support members of his family and friends. His legacy of love, kindness and dry sense of humor will forever be treasured by those who knew him.
In his memory, we gather to celebrate a life well-lived, a man who embraced each moment with courage and joy. His absence leaves a void, but his spirit lives on in the hearts of those he touched.
