James Myette Obituary

James B. Myette, Sr., 88, of Cranston, passed away peacefully with his family at his side Thursday morning, November 6, 2025 at HopeHealth Hospice Center. He was the beloved husband of Brenda A. (Hughes) Myette for 64 years.
Born in Cambridge, MA, he was a son of the late James P. and Evelyn M. (Toohy) Myette.
A lifelong educator, Jim graduated from Providence College and earned his Masters in Mathematics at The University of Rhode Island. He taught Math and Computer Science for 27 years at North Kingstown High School. After retirement, this proud Providence College graduate returned to teaching; this time at his alma mater, where he taught an additional 20 years. Jim was a Navy Reserves Veteran.
Jim's family was his first love and ultimate priority. He embraced learning as much as teaching. His fascination with photography and coastal scenery inspired him to take a Watercolor class at a local high school. After years of honing his skills, he was welcomed as an Artist Member of The Providence Art Club. He found joy in pursuing many visual art forms, sharing his talents with his new found art community, meeting other artists, and was a founding member of "The Breakfast Club". Jim achieved a life long goal of exploring Europe - on not one, but multiple European adventures with Brenda.
Jim was the loving father of Margaret "Meg" McDonough and her spouse Michael, James "Jim" Myette, Jr. and his spouse Ann Marie, Mary Catherine "Kate" Myette, Anne Elizabeth "Liz" Roche and her spouse Bill, and Edward "Eddie" Myette.
Besides his wife and children, James is survived by his grandchildren Ashley Lafreniere and her husband Alex, Lauren Gomes and her husband John, Daniel McDonough, Matthew McDonough, Bridget McDonough, Kayla Roche, Jamie Roche, and Shawn Roche, his great grandchildren Connor, Amelia, and Bennett. He was the brother of the late Richard F. Myette.
VISITATION will be held Sunday, November 9, from 4:00 until 7:00 pm in the "WOODLAWN" Funeral Home, 600 Pontiac Ave., Cranston. His funeral will begin at 9:15 am Monday, November 10, at the Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. Joseph Church, 854 Providence St., West Warwick. Relatives and friends are invited. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in James' memory may be made to Saint Joseph Church, 854 Providence St., West Warwick, RI 02893
