James Monroe Necessary, age 71, of Erwin, passed away on Saturday, October 5, 2024 at James H. Quillen VA Medical Center. A native of Kingsport, TN, James is a son of the late Henry Necessary and Annie Pearl (Monroe) Necessary. He was a member of Evergreen Freewill Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday School, and he was a proud veteran of the United States Army, having served in Vietnam. James was employed by Airgas for 30 years and served as the Johnson City Plant Manager for the last several years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, making lures, and watching college football. He was an avid UT fan and a Master Taxidermist. In addition to his parents, James is preceded in death by his brothers, Ralph Paul Necessary and David Henry Necessary; his sister, Maxie Ruth Necessary; and his niece, Sherry M. Hand.James Monroe Necessary has left behind to cherish his memory: wife of 34 years, Shirley Necessary; nieces and nephews: Kristy Buchanan (Shane), Aaron Howard (Brynna), Walter Burkett Jr., Robin Martin (Tim), Jake Necessary (Sharon), Cassie (Frazier) Strickler, Meggan Smith (Michael), Cody Necessary, Eric Davis, Sherry Miller, Willard Davis, William Davis, and other special nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Charlotte Burkett (Walter); brothers-in-law: Ward Howard, Jeffery Davis, and Kenny Davis (Karen); and lifelong special friend, David Hayworth.The family respectfully requests the honor of your presence as we offer tribute and remember the life of James Monroe Necessary in a funeral service to be held at 7:00 pm on Wednesday, October 9, 2024 in the chapel at Valley Funeral Home. Reverend Aaron Howard will officiate. Eulogy will be provided by Reverend Noah Taylor. A visitation period to share memories and offer support to the family will begin at 5:00 pm on Wednesday, and will continue until service time at Valley Funeral Home. A graveside committal service will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday, October 10, 2024 in Mountain Home National Cemetery. Those attending the committal service should meet at the cemetery by 12:50 pm on Thursday for the service. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be: David Hayworth, Ward Howard, Kenny Davis, Jeff Davis, Walter Burkett, and Walter Burkett, Jr. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in James's name to
