James A. Nellis, 83, of Mayfield, NY, Passed peacefully surrounded by members of his loving family on August 24, 2025.

He was born in Johnstown, NY on February 14, 1942 to William Nellis and Anna Nellis (Romaine). He attended Gloversville High School, later obtaining his GED. He married the love of his life, Patricia A. Nellis (Snyder) on April 18, 1959. Throughout their 66 years of marriage, he cherished her.

He was extremely hard working and, at one time, even owned his own business in Gloversville, NY, "Jim's Texaco." After working several jobs, he found his true passion, working 22 years as a New York State Trooper from 1968 to 1990. He became an inspiration to several other members of the family who also chose to pursue careers in law enforcement. He was a member of Moose Club and the Free Masons.

James is survived by his wife Patricia, and three children: William J. Nellis, Susan M. Nellis (Terleckey), and James A. Nellis Jr. He was predeceased by his oldest daughter, Deborah A. Nellis (Murphy). He had 9 siblings, with the only surviving sister being Charlotte Coger. He valued family above all else. He and his daughter in law, Lori E. Nellis (Little One), grew extremely close over the years, with their bond strengthening even more during his final months. "Pop" loved all of his grandchildren and great-children with all of his heart. He was also extremely fond of all of his friends, especially the life-long friends that he remained close to throughout his life.

In accordance with his wishes, no funeral will be held in his honor.
