Jim "James William" Nichols, 87, of Binghamton, NY, passed away peacefully in his home on Wednesday, April 17, 2024. Born on March 22, 1937, in Endicott, NY to loving parents William and Thelma Nichols, Jim was known for his faithfulness to the Lord and to his family. He was a joy and blessing to so many with his easy-going nature, humor, and kindness. Jim was a beloved husband to his wife of 63 years, Joanne Marie Ott. He was a devoted father to Kim Renee Taylor (Dean), James Mitchell Nichols (Martha), and Lesley Paige Weiss (Roger Jr.). He is survived by his brother David Nichols (Beverly) of Candor, NY, his sisters Doris Stannard of North Creek, New York and Donna Dean (Larry) of Okeechobee, Florida. He is also survived by ten grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren., Jim proudly served in the US Army as a medic and ambulance driver, demonstrating his dedication and commitment to his country. Following his military service, he pursued a career as a Mechanical Engineer for 37 years at Link Aviation, where his expertise and passion made a lasting impact. Outside of his professional life, Jim was actively involved in various hobbies and community activities. He faithfully attended church serving in numerous capacities as a youth leader, Sunday School teacher, Deacon, Choir Director, and Song Leader. His love for music extended to his participation in the Vestal Community Chorus. Jim was also a member of the Binghamton Mustang Club, indulging in his passion for cars, as well as the Binghamton Boat Club in Penn Yan, NY A ceremony to honor and remember Jim will be held on Friday May 3, 2024 at Central Baptist Church, 1606 NY-12, Binghamton, NY 13901. Calling hours will be from 10 AM to 11 AM, with the funeral service to follow at 11 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Central Baptist Christian Academy in Jim's memory. Jim's legacy of faith, service, dedication, and love will forever be cherished by those who had the privilege of knowing him. May he rest in the arms of Jesus.
