James "Nick" Nickerson, age 83, a longtime resident of Chester, PA, and
Aston, PA, passed away on March 15, 2025. Nick was born in Crum Lynne, PA, and raised in Chester where he would attend and graduate from Chester High School. He would then go on to serve his country proudly as a member of the United States Navy from 1958-1962. During that time Nick was stationed in the Philippines and was a Crash Fire Fighter, helping to save pilots and salvage aircraft.
Following his service he returned home to Chester, working various jobs at the Penn Shipyard, Continental Can, Alden Rug, and Hubers Launch. Nick found his true calling when he joined the Chester Police Department. Over a 36 year career as a Police Officer Nick worked his through numerous departments, such as CSI, Arson Investigators, Narcotics, and the Tac Squad. In that time he earned too many awards to count but he was particularly proud of the "Life Saving Award" he earned, rescuing three children who were trapped in a burning building. He was also awarded two stork pins, given to officers who have helped deliver babies. Nick was a dedicated and passionate officer who would have continued working until his last days if he had been allowed. He will be remembered fondly for his years of service to his community and fellow officers, many of whom he mentored during their early years with the department. When Nick was not working, he enjoyed his Hot Rods and Car Club meetups on Thursday nights. He also spent his Thursday morning with his Coffee Club. Nick considered himself an outdoorsman as well, he was an avid hunter and fisherman, cherishing the time he spent at his second home, Honesdale, PA, with his hunting buddy and grandson, Michael.
Nick was the son of the late William W. Nickerson and Mary Elizabeth Taylor.
