James "Jim" Edward Osland of Eagan passed away August 15, 2025, surrounded by his family.
Jim was born October 29, 1945, to Orvin and Ruth (Grimley) Osland in Klamath Falls, OR. They moved back to LeRoy, MN in 1959, and he graduated from LeRoy High School in 1964. He worked at Co-Op Oil in LeRoy, MN; Twin Cities Drywall; Leon Joyce Construction; Osmundson Bros. Contractors in Adams, MN as an equipment Operator, and Woodrich Construction Co. of Hopkins from 1971-73. In 1973, he started working at the VA Medical Center in Minneapolis as a heavy equipment operator and mechanic until his retirement in 2012.
He married the love of his life, Margaret King, on April 7, 1973, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in LeRoy, MN. They were blessed with two children, David (Nancy) of Inver Grove Heights and Michelle (Chad) Unruh of Eagan, and two grandchildren, Sam and Ava, who were an absolute joy in his life. Jim was very proud of his family.
Jim had an inquisitive mind, always trying to figure out how things worked or building something. He enjoyed the outdoors, being in his backyard with his ponds, and traveling, but most of all, he loved spending time with his family. He was a Cub Scout leader, a member of Minnesota Valley Photo Club, and a helping hand to anyone who needed it.
Jim is survived by his wife of 52 years, Margaret; son and daughter, daughter- and son-in-law, and grandchildren; brother, Ronnie Osland, LeRoy, MN; sisters, JoAnn (Harold) Shipman, LeRoy, MN; Rhonda (John) Adams, Riceville, IA; Linda (Doug) Hendrickson, LeRoy, MN and Mary (Rodney) Kiefer of Hayward, MN; brothers-in-law, Paul King, Rose Creek, MN; LaVerne (Donna) King, Austin, MN; Marvin (Kathy) King of McIntire, IA; sisters-in-law, Irene (Ed) Huegel, Riceville, IA; Theresa (Brad) Wolff, Grand Meadow, MN; Eileen King, Rochester, MN and Carol (Dan) Rainey, Stewartville, MN. He will also be remembered by many nieces and nephews, extended family, and friends.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; father- and mother-in-law, Philip and Marie King; sisters-in-law, Suzanne Lohuis and Diane King and brother-in-law, Richard King.
The most important things in Jim's life were God, Family, and Country. And as he always signed off: "Fly the Flag & God Bless America". And watch out for the 'crazies'.
Mass of Christian Burial 10:00 am Friday, August 22nd, at the Church of St. Patrick, 3535 72nd St. E., Inver Grove Heights, MN 55076. Visitation 9:00 am to 10:00 am prior to Mass at the church. Private interment.
