Kok Funeral Home & Cremation Service - Cottage GroveEugene “Gene” Osland, age 83 of Woodbury, MN passed away surrounded by family on September 21, 2025, after a courageous two-year battle with Glioblastoma.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 am, Friday, October 10, 2025 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 920 Holley Ave., St. Paul Park, MN with visitation beginning at 10 am. Interment will be in the St. Thomas Aquinas Cemetery in St. Paul Park. All are invited to a luncheon following the graveside service.
Gene was born October 31, 1941 in St. Paul, MN to Eugene and Ardis (Haedt) Osland. He grew up in West St. Paul, graduating from Henry Sibley High School in 1959. He earned a B.A. and B.S. degrees from Mankato State, and a Masters degree in education from the University of St. Thomas. Gene taught for two years in Petersburg, Alaska, before returning to Minnesota and a 40 year career at Highland Park Senior High in St. Paul. He taught classes in industrial arts, geography, and the on-the-job training program. He also devoted many hours to his community by serving on the South Washington County School Board, and volunteering at his church and the Dorothy Day Center.
Gene was united in marriage to the love of his life Margaret “Marge” Gornick on June 18, 1966. Together they spent 59 years traveling the U.S., camping, exploring small towns, and eating out. His other hobbies included woodworking, reading, and genealogy. The heart of his life was centered around his family. He will be remembered for his wit, humor, and many practical jokes.
Gene is survived by his wife of 59 years, Marge; children Deb (Kevin) Kozak, Kathy (Mark) Stehr, Tricia (Sam) Dummer, and Chris (Melissa) Osland; eight grandchildren Collin, Lindsey, Courtney, Riley, Sydney, Emma, Lauren, Sadie; Craig Kozak; siblings Gretchen (Kenny) Harrup, Greg (Carole) Osland, and Harold (Beth) Osland. He is preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Ardis Osland.
