James Thomas "Buck" Owens, Jr. December 26, 1950 – October 12, 2025 James Thomas Owens, Jr., lovingly known to his family and friends as "Buck," passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 12, 2025, at Emory Hospital in Perry, Georgia. He was 74. A service celebrating Buck's life will be held on Friday, October 24, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Burpee-Scott Memorial Chapel & Crematory, with Pastor Freddy Hogg officiating. The family kindly requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to your favorite charity in Buck's memory. Buck was born on December 26, 1950, in Hinesville, Georgia, to the late James Thomas Owens, Sr. and the late Josephine (Rider) Owens. He served his country faithfully and honorably in the United States Air Force, a period of service he carried with quiet pride throughout his life. Following his military service, Buck worked at Medusa Cement-now known as CEMEX-where he built a successful career and eventually retired. Beyond his work, Buck was a man of many talents and passions. He was a skilled woodworker who took great joy in carving, crafting furniture, and working with his hands. His musical gift shone through as an accomplished banjo player. He traveled with his band, Cedar Creek Bluegrass, performing in sold-out shows and sharing his love of bluegrass music with countless others. Family was central to Buck's life, and he was deeply devoted to those he loved. However, it was his loyal dog and best friend, Bull, who held a particularly special place in his heart. Buck is survived by his children: Amanda Ray of Hawkinsville, GA; Clint Owens (Andrea) of Warner Robins, GA; and Doug Owens of Perry, GA. He also leaves behind six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and his sister, Jennifer Player (Bill) of Phenix City, AL. Buck's warmth, talent, and steadfast presence will be missed dearly by all who knew him. With honor, Burpee-Scott Memorial Chapel & Crematory has been entrusted with arrangements.
