James Owens Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Rivertown Funeral Chapel (Ramsay FH Group) on Mar. 30, 2026.
James M. Owens, "Jim", passed away on March 29, 2026, in Bay City, Michigan, at the age of 78. He was born on January 31, 1948, in Bay City, MI, and will be remembered as a loving, funny, and adventurous man whose presence brought warmth and laughter to those around him.

He is survived by his children, Timothy and Alyssa Owens, Denise and John Mularz, Sharon and Bill Winters, Leroy and Sheila Mularz, and their mother, Cathy Owens, and his grandchildren, Tommy, Allie, Bethany, Billy and Ashley, Chelsy and Donnie, Cody and Kate, Blake, Britney and Austin, and Tyler and Zoey, along with his great-grandchildren, Natalia, Liam, Noah, Wrenly, Oaklyn, Harlow, Lillian, Grant, and Dakota, all of whom brought him great joy. He is also survived by his brother and sister, Flynn and Barb Owens, and his brothers-in-law, Jim Kozlowski, Mike Krol, and Wes Greene. Jim was preceded in death by his son, Jason, and by his parents, Flynn and Amanda Owens.

He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Pat Cassle, Doris Greene-Krol, Mary Sue Dubay, Mary Ellen Owens, and Henrietta Kozlowski, as well as his brother-in-law, Carl Cassle, his sister-in-law, Marilyn Owens, his nephew, Eugene Cassle, and his niece, Patty Sue Cassle. These family bonds were an important part of Jim's life, and the love shared among them remained strong through the years.

Jim worked as a mechanic at Gene and Bob's Trucking, where his skills, dependability, and steady work ethic were appreciated by those who knew him. Outside of work, Jim found happiness in the simple pleasures of life. He enjoyed family drives, rides on his chopper, and his sweets! He had a great love for his animals and found comfort in their companionship. Hunting and working on things were among the pastimes that suited his independent spirit and adventurous nature. He also cherished quiet moments, especially sitting in his favorite chair and listening to music.

Those who knew Jim will remember him as a man who valued family, enjoyed life's simple pleasures, and met each day with a spirit of adventure. His memory will be treasured always, and he will be deeply missed by all who loved him.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 4, 2026, from 4:00-7:00 pm at the White Birch Club House, 2421 E. Birch Dr., Kawkawlin, MI 48631.
