James Patterson was born in Vernon, TX on May 7, 1952 to Barney and Eliza Ann Patterson. He went to school in Tulia, TX and later attended Ector High School in Odessa, TX.

James enlisted in the United States Army in 1974, and was honorably discharged in 1980. He married Joyce Castle in 1988 and together they raised seven children and two goddaughters. James gave his life to Christ and served as an usher, a member of the brotherhood, and a Deacon.

He is preceded in death by his mother and father, both sets of his grandparents, one grandson, one granddaughter, three brothers, and one sister.

He is survived by his dear wife Joyce (of almost thirty- seven years), one sister – Pearlie Jackson of Midland, and his children Roshanna, James II, Barney, Lacresha, LaQuetta (Douglas), David (Natasha), Joycelyn, also goddaughters Donnae and Chymz. He also had twenty-two grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation has been set for Thursday March 14, 2024 from 1pm-9pm at Martinez Funeral Home chapel with a wake from 6pm-8pm.

A celebration of James Patterson Sr life is set for 11am Friday March 15, 2024, at Living Vision Ministries 
525 S Grandview Ave. Odessa, TX. with Pastor James Porter officiating.

Burial with Military Honors will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens 6801 E Highway 80, Odessa, TX 79762.
