James Morgan Peacock, 91, was born on December 5, 1934, in Cleburne, Texas, and passed away on February 24, 2026, in Brenham, Texas.

James graduated from Texas A&M University in 1957 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Following graduation, he proudly served four years in the United States Air Force. He was stationed at Kirtland Air Force Base in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he worked to improve the mechanisms used to deploy bombs from aircraft, demonstrating both his technical expertise and dedication to service.

After his military service, James began an exemplary career with NASA as an engineer. He contributed to the nation’s aerospace achievements during the historic Apollo program and Skylab missions. Over the course of his distinguished career, he made many meaningful contributions to the advancement of America’s aerospace programs before retiring from NASA.

James was an adventurous spirit with a lifelong love of exploration. He was passionate about scuba diving, traveling the world to explore remarkable dive sites, and it was on one of these trips that he met his beloved wife, Aldara, beginning a partnership of forty years. While at NASA, he founded the Lunarfins Scuba Diving Club and remained an active member long after retirement. In addition, he enjoyed flying radio-controlled airplanes and, later, drones, bringing the same curiosity and precision to his hobbies as he did to his work.

James also combined his entrepreneurial spirit with his engineering skills, building, owning, and operating an RV and boat storage facility during his NASA career. His wife Aldara continues to operate the facility today, a testament to their teamwork and dedication.

Never one to stop learning or contributing, James co-founded THE RIGHT CLIMATE STUFF with three other retired NASA scientists. The organization focused on research and discussion of climate change grounded in scientific evidence, and James and his colleagues presented their findings to institutions throughout the United States.

Above all, James was devoted to his family. He is survived by his wife of forty years, Aldara Gandara Peacock; his daughter, Paula Marie Peacock; his son, William Dean Peacock and his wife, Arlana Carol Middleton Peacock; and his grandson, Timothy Wyman Peacock and his wife, Julie Peacock.

James lived a life defined by service, intellect, curiosity, and adventure. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date.
