James Pelton Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Aulds Funeral Home - Shreveport on Oct. 9, 2025.

Publish in a newspaper

James Rodger "Jim" Pelton, age 80, of Shreveport, Louisiana, went home to be with the Lord on September 20, 2025. He was born on March 21, 1945, to Clarence Pelton and Leona Schulte Pelton.

Jim is survived by his beloved wife, Sandra Pelton, his faithful partner in life. He was a proud and loving father to Joni Pelton and Vicki Humphrey, and a cherished father-in-law to her husband, Thomas Humphrey. He was also a devoted grandfather, affectionately known as "Jimmypa," to his grandchildren Olivia Tippett, Liam Tippett, and Katelyn Humphrey, and to Natalie and Olivia Antala, who also lovingly called him Jimmypa. His legacy of love also continues through Joni's life partner, Cestmir Antala, who, along with his daughters, was embraced as part of the family.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved brothers, Norman Lee Pelton and Raymond Pelton. His surviving family includes siblings Sharon Snyder, Betty Jean Leith and her husband, Tom; Nancy Kesseler and her husband, Van; Joyce Prichard; Gary Pelton and his wife, Shirley; and Bobby Pelton and his wife, Sharon, as well as sisters-in-law Betty Pelton and Mary Pelton. He is also remembered by many nieces and nephews.

A devoted Christian, Jim's faith guided him each day, shown through his kindness, humility, and service. He was a faithful member of Trinity Heights Baptist Church, where he served wholeheartedly and shared his gifts with others. Jim was also a talented and passionate photographer who loved capturing memories of his family and the beauty of nature. He generously shared his talents with his church and community, freely offering his photographs. He also enjoyed traveling, bowling, playing cards, and spending time with his family. He coached his daughters' softball teams from childhood into their young adult years, creating memories that lasted a lifetime. He had a tender heart for animals and shared his home with many beloved cats and dogs over the years. Jim is also remembered by the many friends whose lives he touched.

His commitment to service extended into his professional life as well. Jim faithfully led the Shreve Memorial Library System as Director for 29 years and continued to share his talents part-time for another 11 years after retirement. He earned his Master's Degree in Library Science from the University of Missouri and left a lasting impact through his dedication to learning and community.

Jim's life was a blessing, his memory a treasure, and his faith an example to all who knew him. He will be deeply missed, but we rejoice knowing he is at peace in the presence of the Lord. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, father-in-law, brother, and friend.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Trinity Heights Baptist Church in Shreveport, where family and friends will gather to honor and remember him.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations in Jim's memory to one of the following organizations: the American Diabetes Association, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, the Alzheimer's Association, or Scouting America Troop 25 of Shreveport
