James Henry Petty, Jr.
September 4, 1982 – June 16, 2025
With profound sadness and broken hearts, we announce the unexpected passing of James Henry Petty, Jr., beloved husband, devoted father, son, brother, and friend, on June 16, 2025, in Las Vegas, Nevada, at the age of 42.
James was born in Rockledge, Florida, and dedicated his life to service, love, and hard work. He earned a Master’s degree in Occupational Safety from Columbia Southern University and proudly served in the United States Air Force and Air National Guard for a combined 24 years.
James was a man who did everything to the best of his ability. He showed love through action—acts of service, quality time, and a warm, steady presence. If something was broken, he fixed it. If he didn’t know how, he researched and learned. There was nothing too difficult for him when it came to caring for his family.
He laid wood floors, built gaming tables and computers, installed water heaters and security systems, and repaired anything that needed attention—garage doors, toilets, A/C units, dishwashers. He was a true jack-of-all-trades, and everything he did, he did with heart and precision.
James was set to begin a new chapter as a Safety Coordinator with Cupertino Electric, a position he had just been hired for one week before his passing.
James loved deep sea fishing, ocean and lake fishing, especially for Mahi Mahi, Snapper, Kingfish, Grouper, Sheepshead and many more with his parents, wife, children and friends. He cherished camping trips to places like Lake Mead, Pine Valley, Duck Creek, Mammoth Lakes, and the Grand Canyon. He was a master of the smoker and grill, known for his unforgettable brisket, pulled pork, and reverse-seared steaks.
He also found joy in hobbies that brought people together—playing board games like Scythe, Oathsworn, Azul, and Catan with his wife, children, and friends, as well as quick party games like Throw Throw Burrito and Exploding Kittens. He loved racing RC cars with his son, supporting his daughters in their passions, and playing video games like World of Warcraft and Ashes of Creation. He loved fast cars, helping neighbors, fixing what others couldn’t, and being part of a joyful, close-knit community.
Above all, James was a devoted husband, father and son. He is survived by his wife, Bryn Danielle Petty, and their children: James Henry Petty, III, Nevaeh Piper, and Nayla Piper. He is also survived by his mother, Robin F. Reese, father, James Henry Petty, stepfather, Joseph A. Reese, sisters Sabrina T. Williams and Tiffany Petty, grandmother Lucille K. Russell, grandfather Clarence Petty, Jr., step-brother Chris Ervins, and many beloved extended family members including aunts, nieces, nephews, and in-laws.
A funeral service will be held at Bunker's Eden Vale Mortuary, 925 N Las Vegas Boulevard, on Saturday, June 28, 2025. The viewing will begin at 1:00 PM, followed by the service at 2:00 PM.
Those who knew James describe him as kind, generous, hardworking, and always ready to help. He gave the best hugs, made the best food, and was the rock of his family. He was his wife’s best friend, his children’s hero, a loving son and someone who made life better just by being in it.
“This is my dad who stepped up and saved me. He made me a daddy’s girl. He is the rock of our family and he always will be. I’ll be living for him now, because he can’t. May he rest in eternal peace and feel our love every day.”
James leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and unshakable strength. He was a man of character and integrity—silly and serious, fearless and gentle. The world lost a good man, and he will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
