James Pring

James Gilbert Pring, 46, of Rye Brook, NY, passed away peacefully on August 12th, 2025, following a long battle with glioblastoma.

James was born in Darwin, Australia, on November 8th 1978, and moved to Taunton, Somerset, England, at a young age. He graduated from Taunton School, and attended university at University College London, and Exeter, achieving his degree in Molecular Biology. Upon graduation, he moved to New York, to marry his long time sweetheart, Robyn. He spent his scientific career doing leukemia research for Memorial Sloan Kettering, research for an AIDS vaccine at Rockefeller University, and finally diabetes research for Naomi Berrie Center at Columbia/NY Presbyterian.

James loved all things science, woodworking, biking, cooking, and traveling the world. He was best known for his endless humor and incredibly sharp wit. He could make anyone laugh, even in the most dire of situations. His presence was a true light to everyone he encountered. The greatest joy in his life was his daughter, Diane. From the second she entered the world, he never wanted to put her down. James was never happier than when he was sharing his knowledge, playfulness and endless dad jokes with her. He was so proud to be her dad. He also greatly enjoyed spending time with his friends, and being with his wife and daughter, every single day.

James was predeceased by his treasured mother, Deanne Pring, and mother in law, Diane Schwartz. He is survived by his wife and daughter, Robyn and Diane Pring. His in-laws, Samuel and Judith Schwartz. His uncle and aunt Robert and Alvina Pring. His brother and sister by choice, Christopher Cassese and Cora Chiru. His cherished rescue dogs, Sindy and Piper. As well as countless friends, extended family, and work family. He was so touched by the outpouring of support from our Ridge Street School community throughout his illness.

The wake will be held at Castiglione Funeral Home on Friday, August 15th, from 4-8pm. 544 Old Post Rd 3, Greenwich, CT 06830.

On Saturday, August 16th, we are gathering at 9:30 at Castiglione for the processional to Sleepy Hollow Cemetery for burial.

Following the burial, there is a luncheon at Cobblestone, one of his favorite places, to celebrate his life. 620 Anderson Hill Rd, Purchase, NY 10577.
